Monte
I was notified by Facebook message about an older dog on craigslist in
the Atlanta area.  Naturally, I had to check it out.  When I saw the
gray face and sad eyes in the picture, I knew I had to help. Southern
States Mastiff Rescue contacted me to let me know they were willing
to help me out with this boy, but I told them before I even saw him,
that as long as he got along with my crew at home, this one was on
me.

I contacted the owner who had posted the ad.  The ad said he had to
find a new home or he would be euthanized.  He was escaping the
yard and getting into garbages in the neighborhood. She was a single
mother with 4 sons and couldn't deal with him any more.
We talked and I told her I would take him.  I drove to a little town just south of Atlanta to pick up
Monte.  To say I was appalled at the conditions he was being kept in, is an understatement.  He was an
11 1/2 year old Mastiff being kept in an empty room in the house and the floor was covered in urine
and feces. I found out the reason he was into local garbages was because she couldn't afford to buy him
food. I couldn't get him out of there fast enough.

I stopped at the vet on the way home for a quick once-over.  He only weighed 103 lbs.!!!!!

Within 3 days every one of my dogs had accepted Monte as one of the crew and he was spending his time
playing, sleeping, and getting fed regular meals.  He absorbed every bit of love he was given and was
absolutely the sweetest boy I have ever met.

Monte was only with me for about 9 months, but I would like to think they were the best 9 months of
his life.
